Project 3 Evaluation

This project was definitely the hardest of the three, not only due to the new techniques used but also because, as helpful as the tutorial was, it is not complete and part 2 is missing or has not been uploaded to YouTube, nevertheless I eventually completed enough of it to make it suitable to submit for my course. As the tutorial ends early, many of the aspects of the project I had to look up and discover for myself.

The hardest part was the use of the mask tool, even though I have previously used it for my second project. It was exceptionally hard as there were so many parts of the project that had to use the tool in so many different ways. Eventually I figured it out after consulting some friends and researching on the internet.

This project also took longer as it had many different individual moving parts, such as the globe, the headlines etc...

I decided against sound in this project as I felt there would not be a sound or sounds suitable enough to add to this project. Unlike the first 2 projects where sound effects were used to add emphasis or fit the project, the news broadcast felt complete without it.

Project 3 Proposal

For my third and final project, I've decided to do a news broadcast after finding an interesting tutorial online. The tutorial looks a bit more challenging than the ones I have previously used and will help me to further my skills as it includes some techniques I haven't come across yet. Although the project seems a bit tricky, the tutorial is done well and seems easy enough as long as I follow the steps correctly.

Project 2 Evaluation

Using the tutorials, I managed to create my short title sequence introducing my made up company. I decided that the name of my film production company would Mirkwater Productions drawing on  influence from The Lord of the Rings as it was on television as I was trying to decide upon a name. I decided to use a fade effect that would reveal the text as it wiped across it. To do so, I utilised the mask tool on adobe After Effects and combined it with the optical flares extension pack. This project took me a little while longer than the first as I was using many different tutorials and taking aspects from them all rather than just one, step by step tutorial.

After finishing the animation, I decided upon adding sound. To do this I went onto http://www.freesound.org/ and selected a free, downloadable sound so to avoid issues with copyrighting. After finding a sound and adding it to my project, it was complete.

Project 2 Production/New Proposal

After experiencing further difficulties with this project I have decided to change my design and restart my project. Because I couldn't find any tutorials to help with the hyperspace design, I've decided to restart and attempt a title sequence for a film production company with a simpler design. I aim to create a short title sequence that would feature at the beginning of a film acknowledging a film production company. My plan is to use many different YouTube tutorials to do this as there is not one particular one that suits what I am attempting to create. I plan to use aspects from these tutorials:

Project 2 Production

As my skills in adobe Photoshop are still lacking and unrefined, executing the intended design for my project is a lot harder than I had anticipated and although the design seems simple enough, in practice it is very difficult to move the camera into the stars and have the stars stretch to signify the speed that is intended. Much harder still is attempting to incorporate the logo for the game company into the stars once reaching 'hyperspace'. However, I have completed the logo and started on the daunting task of planning the camera movements and creating the motion of 'jumping to hyperspace'.

Project 2 Proposal

For my second project I decided on a title sequence for a game company. I decided on a spacey sort of feel and that my games company would reflect this. I decided on this as I thought the job would be relatively simple if the setting was in space and on a black background with some stars. I did not search for a tutorial as I had a clear idea in my head of what I wanted done. As my company name was to be Hyperspace Games, I would attempt to re-create the classic motion from star wars of 'jumping into hyperspace'. This would be done using the tracking feature of the camera within adobe After Effects to move into stars and eventually arrive at a logo I aimed to create for Hyperspace Games on adobe Photoshop beforehand.

Project 1 Evaluation

After searching for a short while, I found a tutorial that guided me through the production of my 3D logo. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_932520&feature=iv&src_vid=4tsSzXGD4bo&v=_CaorZuIDFk)

After following the steps, and using some of previous knowledge of after effects, such as tracking, transforming and adding effects to previously existing shapes or text. One of the longest and most difficult parts of the production of my logo was trying to decide upon the design of my logo. Using the line tool on photoshop I began to construct lines and angles on which I could attempt to create a shape suitable enough for my logo but not too similar to the one used in the tutorial.

I eventually decided upon my design and set about creating my 3D logo with help from the tutorial. Although the tutorial is meant to guide the viewer on how to create a logo, there were many aspects of the video tutorial that seemed very advanced for my knowledge and skills on adobe After Effects. Due to this I had to use the internet (mainly google search engine) to find definitions and explanations on certain technical jargon and actions that were foreign to me however, once understanding, the video made perfect sense and has enabled me to gain new skills and further my knowledge on adobe After Effects. After a few days solid work, I completed my logo and had added motion and made it three dimensional, I then began my search for some decent sound effects I could download and add to my project.

In order to avoid copyright issues and piracy, I began to search the internet for free sound effects that I could download. After finding http://www.freesound.org/ I searched for a sound effect resembling an explosion and a drony sounding whine that could add suspense to my project. I found them without too much trouble and added them to my logo to complete my project.
